Privacy Policy for the Browser Extension
Last Updated: March 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies specifically to the Video Quality Enhancer browser extension (the "Extension") developed by Jovan Ralić (operating under the pseudonym John Weber). It explains how the Extension handles your data, what permissions it requires, and how it protects your privacy.
This policy is separate from the Privacy Policy for our website, which governs account creation and billing.
1. Core Privacy Principle: Zero Tracking
Your privacy is our utmost priority. The Extension is designed to enhance your video viewing experience locally on your device. We strictly adhere to the data use policies of the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons, and other browser extension directories.
- No Analytics: We do not use any tracking software, telemetry, or analytics inside the Extension.
- No Browsing History: We do not track, collect, log, or transmit your browsing history, what websites you visit, or what videos you watch.
- Completely Anonymous Usage: Aside from validating your subscription status, the Extension operates completely offline. We do not know who installed it, nor do we monitor how you use it.
2. How We Handle Subscription Data
The Extension offers a free 3-day trial. During this trial, the tracking of your trial period is handled entirely locally on your device.
If you purchase a subscription, the Extension needs to verify your active status. To do this securely and without requiring a manual login inside the Extension UI, it generates an anonymous, custom User ID.
- The Extension securely communicates with our official server (https://videoqualityenhancer.app) over an encrypted HTTPS connection to check if this User ID is tied to an active subscription.
- No other external servers or APIs are contacted by the Extension.
3. Permissions Requested and Why We Need Them
To function correctly, the Extension requests specific permissions in your browser. We adhere to the principle of least privilege, meaning we only request the permissions absolutely necessary for the Extension's core functionality:
- <all_urls> (Host Permission): The Extension needs to detect and enhance HTML5 videos on any webpage you visit. Because videos can be embedded on any site across the internet, this permission allows the Extension to run its enhancement scripts wherever a <video> element is present. We do not use this permission to monitor your web traffic or read your personal data. All video processing happens locally on your machine.
- scripting: This allows the Extension to dynamically inject the necessary video enhancement code into the specific web pages you are actively viewing.
- storage: The Extension uses your browser’s local storage API to save your personal enhancement settings, preferences, your localized 3-day trial timestamp, and your custom User ID. This data never leaves your device, except for the anonymous User ID which is securely validated against our server.
- offscreen: Required by modern browser extension standards (Manifest V3), this allows the Extension to perform necessary video processing or background DOM manipulations in a hidden document without disrupting your active browsing experience.
- cookies: This permission is used strictly to facilitate secure communication and session validation with our official website (videoqualityenhancer.app) to verify your subscription status and link your account. We do not read, modify, or interact with cookies from any other websites (such as YouTube, Facebook, etc.).
- externally_connectable: This explicitly limits external connections, ensuring the Extension can securely communicate only with our official websites (https://videoqualityenhancer.app/* and https://www.videoqualityenhancer.app/*).
4. Data Sharing and Selling
Because the Extension does not collect personal usage data, there is nothing to share. We do not and will never sell your data to third parties, advertisers, or data brokers.
5. User Control and Data Deletion
Because all operational data (your settings, trial timestamps, and User ID) is stored locally on your device using the browser's storage, you have complete control over it. You can delete all data associated with this Extension at any time simply by uninstalling the Extension from your browser or clearing your browser's extension storage.
6. Age Restrictions
This Extension is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children through the Extension.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect technical updates to the Extension or changes in browser web store requirements. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
8. Contact Me
